We were originally a swimming pool company based in Espoo. A few ice-swimming enthusiasts asked us about a pool that would be suitable for use at home. We could not find the product for them and, in 2014, started looking in earnest for a cold-immersion pool for our selection. We found some products, but they were massive, took up too much space and were complex to install and horribly expensive. There was no cold-immersion pool on the market that ice-swimmers and active people could use at home.
The world’s leading professional series, such as the Premier League, NBA and NHL, make extensive use of cold water for recovering from exercise. We were engineers and entrepreneurs with a lifelong passion for sports and exercise, so designing a cold-water immersion pool for ordinary exercise enthusiasts began to feel like the right path for us.
We had accumulated plenty of expertise in the field of swimming pools and jacuzzis, but the chance of creating something completely novel for the global market still felt unbelievable. A market survey commissioned in 2015 confirmed our assumptions: there was demand for cold water pool beyond the Nordic countries as well. We decided to make the pool more flexible by also designing it to function as a warm bath.
A study on the subject was carried out in cooperation with the University of Jyväskylä (Department of Biology of Physical Activity). In early 2016, the R&D project received a significant boost from the Finnish government in the form of a full Tekes grant for the research and development of Avant°pool’s product. At the conclusion of the two-year R&D project, the Avant°pool company was established in the autumn of 2017.
Avant°pool’s first pool, ”Kinos”, is designed around the use of cold-water immersion for bodily recovery. The pool will be launched in fall 2018.
We are experts in cold and clean water and are constantly innovating around it. It is important to us that our products have scientifically proven benefits, are safe and ecological, elegantly designed and made in Finland.
